Yukiguni Snowshoe

Japan Yukiguni (Snow Country) cannot be described in words. On this tour, we snowshoe every day in beautiful settings, soak in hot springs Onsen and take part in Japanese cultural activities unique to the region.

Sample Itinerary:

Day 1 Meet in Nagano City

We meet at 6:00 PM in the hotel this evening for a tour introduction and welcome dinner. Details regarding tomorrow’s tour will be explained.

Accommodation: Western Style Hotel

Day 2 Togakushi

We drive 45 minutes this morning to Togakushi, an ancient network of Shinto Shrines and Buddhist Temples. Here, we walk across a frozen lake and through a 400-year-old cedar lined avenue. Lunch is Togakushi-style soba noodles, after which we drive one hour to Shibu Onsen, not before stopping at an onsen along the way. Tonight’s dinner is in the ryokan.

Day 3 Maguse Onsen

Today we snowshoe in the beautiful area above Maguse Onsen. We walk back to the hot spring to “soak in” the beautiful scenery. For a late lunch we visit a Japanese inn and take a soba noodle making class, after which we eat our own noodles. We end the day with a Washi paper making class and go out to a sushi restaurant in Yudanaka Onsen.

Day 4 Shiga Kogen

Today we drive up to the highest ski resort in Japan, taking the lift up and snowshoeing all the way down a forest path. Lunch is a local restaurant that serves Japanese curry. For dinner, we feast on Japanese hot pot in an igloo restaurant (Limited to late January and February tours).
